Zack Johnson knew he could come out of Rose-Hulman making a handsome salary using his mechanical engineering degree, but he chose a different path. In the mid '90s as technology and online business were booming, he saw the opportunities that online sales, website designing, computer networks, and hi-speed internet offered someone up for the challenge. And, he was.
To do that, he learned html and connected customers to products through businesses such as eBay. He built web pages for businesses like Village Quarter Apartments that wanted to inform and attract customers. Zack saw businesses wanting their computers to network and run at a faster speed so he started Joink. And, most recently, he learned software was the easy way to man a business so he creates operating systems and writes code that others need--ggCircuit was the result. Each of these became a business for Zack.
Today, if someone were to go to "the Mall" in Terre Haute, that person would maybe not know that 30,000 sq ft. of the entire mall is occupied by one man-- Zack Johnson. eBash, Sandbox Social, Highlanders Digital Axe Throwing, Bank of Pinball, Home Run Hangout, Lucky Putt, and Weathertop Board & Card Games are all his and who knows what might be in the works next.
He told CEO that he has "learned the hard way" and made mistakes, but if he had to do it again, he didn't think he would change anything. It's made him who he is. But, as he's gotten a little older, he is averse to the risks he would have taken as a younger man. It hasn't stopped him from expanding his vision of entertainment for the public and trying new things.
